Obviously famous for the confection which gets its name from this location, Bakewell is a wonderful town. Situated on the Wye, Bakewell is one of the oldest towns in the UK. With plenty to see and do this lovely town could be a great place to see during your stay in luxury cottages near Bakewell.
Whilst it is a beautiful town, most people have heard about Bakewell because of the pudding which originated in Bakewell. The story goes that a woman in the 19th century accidentally ‘ruined’ a batch of jam tarts. Whilst the story may be apocryphal, the tarts are recognised all over the world and can be traced back to Bakewell.
Local markets offer a wide range of produce whilst local walking offers a wide array of scenery, from rolling moors to woodland. Furthermore, local events, such as Bakewell Carnival Week and Well Dressing in July or Bakewell Show - one of the oldest agricultural events in the country, create a real sense of community.
