This 2 bedroom, 4 star cottage boasts a king size double bedroom and a further twin bedroom and can sleep up to 4 people.
The cottage has recently undergone an extensive refurbishment to include a wood burning stove, low energy lighting and heating system and a hand built Cherry wood kitchen.
Curlew Cottage is a delightful, 19th century cottage that in days past was the Pig byre to Portnellan Farm. Nowadays, Curlew is fully upgraded to a Visitscotland 4 star holiday cottage.
Located in Portnellan's private courtyard with views across the lambing meadow to the Loch and River Dochart, this topsy turvy (living quarters upstairs, sleeping quarters downstairs) semi detached cottage has had a recent interior refurbishment to include redecorated walls, doors and ceilings, low energy LED lighting and mega flow hot water system.
You enter Curlew from Portnellan's private courtyard (where your own garden furniture is located) into a stone built porch area where a tumble dryer is installed. To the left and right are the bedrooms and bathroom. One king sized double and one twin. One bathroom with a bath and an overhead shower. Stairs lead to an upstairs landing. To the left is a fully fitted modern hand built Cherry wood kitchen with all modern conveniences including washing machine, dishwasher, NEFF ceramic, fridge, hob, oven and combination microwave. To the right is a living and dining area with suite, writing chest, TV with SKY package and Blu Ray DVD and views across the lambing field across to the river and Loch Dochart where you can explore the island with its very own castle ruin.
The property is fully double glazed with low energy electric heating throughout. You can really experience living in this truly Scottish cottage, complete with 3 feet thick stone walls and all the comforts and conveniences of your own home. Gaze through the window or step outside your front door and you you will met by the dramatic and atmospheric mountains within Glen Dochart. A short walk across the lambing field or along the dismantled railway line takes you to the glistening waters of loch and river Dochart.
The Portnellan Estate has been privately owned by the same family for nearly 40 years and offers fantastic facilities including fresh run wild salmon and trout fishing on the estate lochs and river, plenty of cycling trails both on and off road for all abilities, a games room with table tennis, table football, pool table and a small gym. Kayaks and rowing boats are free to use on the river and loch. Clay pigeon shooting can also be arranged. Wi-Fi is available as well as BBQ usage.
Portnellan Estate is the perfect base for exploring Central/West Scotland with known landmarks only a short distance away. Oban 45 minutes, Stirling, Fort William and Glasgow just over 1 hour and Edinburgh a 90 min drive. Glen Coe and all it beholds is less than 40 mins drive and the bonnie shores of Loch Lomond are 20 mins by car. Other areas include the truly beautiful Glen Lyon and Loch Tay, Glen Etive, Glen Lochay and Glen Orchy all within the local area.
Whether you are looking for the adrenaline rush of adventure or lazy days on your doorstep, out and about on the many hills in the local area or exploring one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland, Portnellan Estate and Curlew Cottage offers you the warmest of welcomes upon your return.
This beautiful accommodation is available for short breaks, weeks or longer.
“A really great base for exploring this beautiful part of Scotland, and lots to keep the family occupied, from canoes and bikes, to games and DVD’s. Lodge very clean, well maintained and equipped, and with plenty of its own space. The loch and mountain views, the peace and restfulness of the place, even the purity of the tap water, all make you want to stay. Review posted 13th August.”
“My daughter rented two cottages at Portnellan for the celebration of her 21st birthday. We had no idea what to expect before we arrived, and we had travelled from the United States to attend her birthday. The magic of Portnellan added to the magic of seeing my daughter turn 21. What a beautiful location, and the cottages were lovely vacation homes with everything we could need.”
“Everyone had a terrific time, the young ones and us old-timers! Thank you to the gracious staff (namely Cameron’s family.) You made us feel welcome and made her celebration a delight!”
“I highly recommend these cottages for anyone who loves a magical place to sleep and roam in one of the most magical places I’ve ever been! Review posted 14th August.”
“Outstanding as usual. A warm welcome from Cameron and family. Spotlessly clean lodge , stunning scenery and great touring base. Would recommend this to anyone looking for luxury self catering in Scotland. Review posted 12th August”
