With almost 6000 square feet of floor space and an acre and a half of gardens and woodland South Wing is a great place to be whatever the weather.
Luxurious living and dining areas, a fully equipped kitchen, wood burning stove, comfortable sofas and chairs, baby grand piano and a feeling of luxurious space. If you bring yourself to leave South Wing the village of Hunmanby has several pubs, an excellent fish & chip shop and a small range of shops.
South Wing is as grand outside as it is inside. The large, flat lawn is an ideal play area for children and adults alike. In total the lawns, gardens, terraces and woodland extend over approximately 1.7 acres, The lovely terraces and borders have mature bedding plants. A Ha-Ha separates the South Wing garden from the adjacent nine-hole golf course and 4 hard court tennis courts (which are not owned by South Wing but are available on a pay and play basis with payment made to Hunmanby Hall Golf and Leisure which is next door).
There are two large outdoor table and chairs for outdoor dining with seat cushions by back door. A Weber BBQ is kept next to the log store which is to the right of the back door.
The downstairs WC is close to the back door, very handy for games players and outdoor diners
Hot tubs can be hired from local companies familiar with South Wing and can be delivered, filled and heated prior to guests visits. Please note that a £40 additional charge applies when hot tubs are booked - this contributes to the extra heating and water used.
South Wing is a grand, 17th century grade II* listed, self-contained house that is part of Hunmanby Old Hall. It has served as a family home, a girls school and, since 2008, a wonderful holiday home.
South Wing is arranged over two floors (ground and first floor). There is no lift or escalator and there are no hand rails on the hallway steps, but the steps are not steep.
There is a WC on ground floor, opposite main entrance doorway, down 6 steps then turn sharp left in to WC through doorway
A TV lounge is the first door on the right after descending the hallway steps. All the rooms are large and this is no exception at 5.1m x 5m x 3m high. The TV room is carpeted and furnished with two four-seat sofas, and a number of large bean-bags.
It is equipped with a 40" flat screen TV with DVD player/recorder and sound bar. Services include all free-view channels plus BT Sport. A WiFi extender and ethernet cable enable guests to connect their own devices to the TV to take advantage of their own subscription services.
The amazing oak-paneled dining room is next on the right, off the hallway. This is a beautiful room to share a meal, equipped with 10 dining chairs around a large rectangular table plus 4 additional chairs. A high chair available. and kept in the utility room near the back door.
The enormous main lounge is at end of hallway to the right. This grand room is 6.2m x 10m x 3.4m high and floor is parquet wood. Despite its size it is cozy with a wood burner, 3 modern radiators and plenty of comfortable sofas and chairs. From the eastern end of the room there are views across the village of Hunmanby and out to sea at Filey Bay. The southern windows look out over the gardens, woodland and the adjacent nine-hole golf course - available on a pay and play basis. Two huge chandeliers provide the lighting along with a number of lamps. There is a baby-grand piano for the those that like to provide their own entertainment.
The well-equipped, eat-in kitchen is opposite the dining room. It has a large range-style cooker, table and 6 chairs and is packed with all the crockery, cutlery, glasses and utensils you are likely to need. The kitchen also has a large side-by-side fridge freezer large and powerful (800W) microwave, 4 slot toaster, kettle, lots of excellent quality crockery, cutlery (additional children’s cutlery and glasses), heavy quality pots and pans.
There is a utility room available. near the main entrance which is equipped with washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board, and sink with hot/cold taps.
South Wing has lots of games, books and dvd's available for all ages
First Floor Description
The five large bedrooms are all on first floor. The first bedroom has a king-size bed plus a single bed, bedside tables and lamps, dressing table with surround lights. An en suite shower room with shower, toilet and basin.
Bedroom two is 4.5m x 5m x 3m high and equipped with a king -size bed, bedside table, chest of drawers, mirror, chair, dressing mirror. It shares an en-suite 'jack & jill' bathroom that has a toilet, bath (with shower attachment, basin.
Bedroom three is 6.2m x 6.5m x 3m high and equipped with a king-size bed, one regular single bed, one single cabin-bed with further pull out single bed underneath. Storage is provided with a mirrored 'Armoire' style wardrobe and chest of drawers.
Bedroom four is 3.3m x 4.8m x 2.5m and has two single beds, chair, wardrobe, bedside cabinets with lamps plugged in to wall sockets, and a wall mounted, 19 flat-screen TV. Bedroom four is adjacent to a lovely small, old fashioned WC with overhead cistern and wooden bench seat.
Bedroom five, known also as the master bedroom is enormous, 6m x 6.9m x 2.8m high. It has a super-king size bed, sofa, 2 chairs, dressing table and mirror. A door at side of the bed leads to dressing room with a double wardrobe and large mirror, which lead on to an en-suite bathroom with a bath, shower, basin and bidet.
The master bedroom bathroom also leads to a small study which in turn provides access to an outside decked balcony equipped with patio style furniture consisting of a table, 2 benches and 2 chairs
In total South Wing has five WC's with one on ground floor and four upstairs on the first floor.
Window Views Description
South Wing provides some stunning views. From the eastern end of the house guests can look across the village of Hunmanby, past the church and out to sea at Filey Bay and Hunmanby Gap. The large sandy beach stretches almost seven miles at low tide and is perfect for dog walks, games and swimming.
The main part of the house is south-facing with views across the gardens, woodlands and over the adjacent nine-hole golf course.
