The Old Farmhouse is one of just eight child friendly farm holiday cottages at Polean Farm in Cornwall. Each one of the cottages are Ideally situated close to the village of Pelynt and very near to the seaside towns of Looe, Polperro and Fowey. This is the perfect base for a family friendly holiday in Cornwall.
If you visit with children or toddlers then they will love joining farmer Keith each week day morning to help get the guinea pigs out of their cages, plus help to bottle feed the lambs (seasonal) and hand feed the pigmy goats and chickens. After feeding the animals they can collect the eggs from the chickens and the children can carry them home for breakfast. Also after the animal feeding they will get free rides on Noah the pony for the toddlers or rides on Mr Darcie for older children up to 10 stone. Or for all ages (children and adults !) there is a ride around the farm in the barrel train, pulled by our own little red tractor.
In addition, Polean Farm is a working livery yard and children and parents often enjoy visiting the horses and ponies each day.
Short breaks are available, but if you stay for seven days or more you get a free hamper full of Cornish goodies.
The Old Farmhouse is a charming historical farmhouse which has been tastefully renovated to provide spacious and comfortable accommodation for up to twelve people in five bedrooms (maximum occupancy is up to eight adults, two children and two infants, or nine adults, and two infants or children). The Old Farmhouse has a massive kitchen, two lounges (plus two TV’s and two log burners). It also has its own Wi-Fi.
With its own private south facing garden, large patio area and parking for up to 3 cars the old farmhouse is perfect for a large family get together or for two families to holiday together.
The heart of the farmhouse is the massive family kitchen, with a large dining table , island workbench / breakfast bar and with doors out to the rear garden. The kitchen has a small sofa and benches for relaxing. It also has a vaulted beamed ceiling and is always flooded with light from the ten glass doors and windows. The kitchen was originally used for parking the farm tractors and you can still see the exposed stone of the old farmhouse wall and even the back of the clay bread oven that was once used to bake bread for the family. The kitchen now has all the modern conveniences to make your stay as comfortable as possible, including a double range oven, microwave , fridge, double sink and a 50 inch tv. Off the kitchen is a small utility room with a large American style fridge freezer. For those staying in winter the kitchen also has a log burning stove (though it is not needed as the central heating is more than adequate).
From the kitchen there are double doors through into the wide corridor and from there doors lead into the two lounges and the downstairs bedroom.
The main lounge is beautifully furnished and has a 42inch TV, with a DVD player and a FreeSat satellite player and recorder box.
From the main lounge , double doors take you through to the small lounge, which offers a peaceful seating area. The small lounge was once the kitchen for the farmhouse and still has the original stone hearth and bread ovens built into the 4ft thick wall. The room now has a log burner fitted , which is perfect for sitting in front of during winter nights.
First Floor Description
Upstairs the Farmhouse has four bedrooms. The main bedroom has a king size bed and an en-suite shower room. The second bedroom also has a king size bed, The third bedroom has a double bed and the fourth bedroom has a three quarter bed (with room for one adult or two children). There is room for a cot in the first or second bedrooms. Upstairs there is also a shared bathroom with a large shower and a separate bath.
The fifth bedroom is downstairs, off the main hall and has two single beds. There is also a downstairs toilet (accessible via reception), making the downstairs bedroom suitable for guests with limited mobility.
