The Quarry is a luxury 7-bedroom seaside holiday house in Ilfracombe in North Devon. Built for an Admiral this beautiful Victorian property has been restored to a very high standard and now offers luxury accommodation for families and groups of friends. The house also can boast glorious views and is just a short stroll to the nearby beach.
The Quarry has half an acre of pretty gardens, log fires, AGA, detached vine room, sea view terrace accessed directly off a magnificent 34ft sitting / dining room, loads of privacy, full sky package and WIFI, this is a wonderful place for a holiday.
This is a stylish Victorian villa offering guests spacious & light rooms, in a beautiful location within walking distance of Ilfracombe harbour and the vibrant seaside town. The Quarry is also the perfect base for those who love scenic coastal and country walks as South West Coast Path is just behind the house.
The Quarry sits in 1/2 acre south facing terraced gardens, there are wonderful views over the town & out to sea.
‘Secret’ garden – ½ way up the drive, secluded, pretty & level garden surrounded by shrubs & flowers. Ideal for hiding away with a book.
Detached vine room – large Victorian conservatory with grape vines & a nectarine tree (please help yourself!). This is a great place to relax, French doors onto a terrace with outside table to seat 14.
Kitchen Terrace - small fish pond, bench, pots, a washing line, large charcoal barbecue.
Front terrace - Accessed from the sitting / dining room – amazing views over the town & sea, table & chairs to seat 6, leads to side garden with large sunny decked area. Steps up to:
Back garden – large sloping / terraced area 'natural' garden with mature trees, direct access onto the South West Coastal path & down to the secret beaches at the back of the house. Good for older kids to have adventures.
Parking – parking by the house for 3/4 cars, also lots of parking on the road at the bottom of the drive.
The Quarry is a grand Victorian house, with huge ceilings & large rooms. All the original features have been restored - stained glass, fireplaces & mouldings. With wooden floors throughout, its good for kids & dogs. The house faces South & so is flooded with light during the day.
The owners are an artist & interior designer, and the house has featured in House Beautiful, 25 Beautiful Homes, the TV programme Homes by Sea, Red Magazine and Conde Nast Traveller.
Enter into the attached Victorian conservatory. Scented by a huge geranium plant, it has plenty of room for muddy boots & pushchairs. It's also full of logs for the open fire.
The large hallway has hooks for many coats. Door on right opens into the magnificent Sitting / Dining room. Here you'll find a huge oak dining table surrounded by library shelves, with 2 pairs of French doors opening onto the large sunny seaview terrace with tables & chairs and sun loungers. The sitting room has large comfy sofas, log fire & big TV with SKY packages. There's a big bay window looking onto the terrace.
Also off the hallway is the kitchen / second dining space. This spacious room has a handmade kitchen, extra size oven, gas hob & gas AGA (always on). An American style fridge / freezer dispenses ice & water. You'll find the kitchen well equipped for cooking up a feast. There's a walk in larder, a laundry room (with washing machine & tumble drier), and a downstairs loo. The dining area has a table & chairs to seat 6. Doors either end of this room open outside.
First Floor Description

Bedroom 1 - Lovely room with wooden floors, a full height bay window with wonderful views, King Size bed, original fireplace, wardrobe, chest of drawers & a sofa from which to enjoy the view.

Bedroom 3 - Small single bedroom with views up to the hills.
Family Bathroom - Freestanding vintage bathtub, separate shower with great water pressure, loo, sink, original fireplace.
Bedroom 4 - En Suite room. King size bed, en suite with loo, shower & sink.
Second Floor and Above Description
Bedroom 5 – Double bed with views over Ilfracombe & out to sea, wardrobe, single futon chair bed which can be made up. Original fireplace.
Bedroom 6 – En Suite King size bedroom with views over Ilfracombe & out to sea. TV. En suite has shower, sink & loo. Single futon armchair we can make up into a bed for a child if needed.
Bedroom 7 – Double bed, countryside views up to the hills
Family bathroom – lovely large bathroom with bath, shower, loo & sink
'Art' room – Former artists studio room, now a place to escape! Long sink, table & 4 chairs, armchair & door to back garden.

Most of the bedrooms have fantastic views over Ilfracombe & out to sea. A couple have views up the hills surrounding the town.

Its only a 10 min walk from The Quarry to Ilfracombe Harbour. This is a picturesque working harbour, with a sandy harbour beach.
