Outside Description
The enclosed patio garden is surrounded by a gated, low granite wall; keeping small children and dogs from straying! This is a great sheltered sun-trap area, facing south. The surrounding house walls (on two sides) can be warmed up by the sun during the day; gently warming the area in the evenings, making outdoor living and barbecues more desirable! A short distance away from the patio is the children's play area with swings, a slide and a climbing frame. There is also a large picnic table where adults could sit and read while the kids play and run. There is a large mown field for ball games and dog exercise...with great views of the surrounding countryside and glimpses of Dartmoor, one mile away. There is a large parking area suitable for up to six cars.
Downstairs Description
The main area is open-plan and has under-floor heating throughout: At the southern end is a very light and spacious lounge area with comfortable sofas and leather armchairs. On warm days you can retract the wide bi-fold doors and enjoy the sunny patio area and lounge as one single area for social gatherings. At the other end of this area is the well-equipped kitchen with granite worktops and excellent appliances: A double range cooker with six gas hobs and two electric ovens. There is an extra wide fridge freezer and a full set of appliances including microwave, toaster, Nespresso machine and DAB radio. There are ample kitchen utensils and good quality Stellar cookware. Keen amateur chefs have told us that this is the best equipped kitchen they have ever had in a holiday cottage, so they are able to prepare great meals and at the same time engage with the other guests in the lounge! In the centre of the kitchen is a long oak dining table and Ercol classic chairs. The cutlery and crockery is also all of a high stardard. Just off the kitchen is a short corridor leading to the ground-floor bedroom. You will first pass a small downstairs cloakroom with WC and basin. Next, the large ground-floor en-suite bedroom has extra-wide doorways and is entirely suitable for wheelchair users. The Vi-Spring super-king zip-link bed can be configured for you as twins, if preferred. A doorway leads into the en-suite wet room with shower, WC and basin. There is a laundry / utility room with separate washing machine and tumble drier. This is always a very warm room, so there is a large drying rack which can be hoisted to the ceiling. Finally there is the huge vaulted games barn, directly accessed from the inner hallway. It has a table tennis table, full-sized pool table and a cross-trainer. A few chairs are provided for non-players! Most family groups spend many memorable fun hours here during their holidays.
First Floor Description
As you can see from the photos, there are two large, en-suite bedrooms, both with vaulted, oak framed ceilings and oak floors. You should be assured of great nights' sleep here, as the beds are large, with pocket sprung mattresses, sumptuous John Lewis duvets, and Egyptian cotton sheets and pillow cases. The master bedroom has a super-king zip-link bed (6 feet wide) which we can also split into singles if you prefer. This suite has a large bathroom with a walk-in shower and separate bath. The WC is at the far end of this bathroom, with its own door to reduce noise at night (more good sleep!) The second upstairs bedroom has a 5ft king-size bed of similar quality to the master one. The bathroom comprises a bath with shower over, a WC, and a basin.
Window Views Description
Downstairs' rooms have wide views over the patio garden and orchard, framed by hills and woodland. None of these rooms are overlooked, and there are no nearby neighbours. It is all very private. Upstairs, the bedrooms overlook the pond, our fruit and vegetable gardens, and the surrounding countryside of rolling Devon hills and woods. Overall, the house is in a rural setting, but is only five minutes' walk to the centre of historic and vibrant Ashburton. The best of both worlds!
