This is your chance to stay in this once former Georgian rectory in a delightful rural location in seventeen acres of private parkland in the attractive village of Horsington which lies within the historic Blackmore Vale. The Grange is within easy distance of the A303 and the London-Exeter rail line.
The house is most suited for large groups and extended families looking to holiday together, take a break or indeed to celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday, anniversary or for an intimate wedding reception or stay.
Sleeping up to 22 guests in 10 spacious bedrooms, the house has 7 bathrooms (this includes the very pretty, separate period Dovecote Cottage). The accommodation has been fitted and furnished to a very high standard, and in excellent taste.
Superb facilities include two games rooms (ground floor pool/snooker and basement table tennis room), a basement "cinema room", open air heated swimming pool (available between May and the end of September), with adjoining hot tub, sauna and changing room. There is also a hard surface tennis court - balls and racquets provided. There are bicycles for the use of guests.
The gardens and grounds of the Grange always fill guests with admiration: they are a mixture of ornamental flowerbeds and spacious lawns, carefully and beautifully maintained by our two gardeners. The heated pool (open from the beginning of May to the end of September) and the sauna and hot tub lie very close to the house, separated from it by a formal ornamental garden with flowerbeds filled with roses and lavender. Beyond the pool area is a hardcore tennis court, and next to that an enclosed walled grassed area, suitable for (small scale!) football or ball games. The Grange is equipped with bicycles (and helmets), croquet sticks and balls, a trampoline, and a small selection of children's indoor/outdoor games such as Jenga.
Across the gravelled parking area lying to one side of the house is the Dovecote Cottage, that sleeps 4 in two bedrooms. This Cottage is totally self-contained, with bathroom, kitchen and sitting room. An ideal place for, say, older guests who might seek some peace and quiet away from the house, if they choose!
Guests usually arrive in the Grange via the spacious kitchen, off which lies the lovely and even more spacious orangery - a delight at any time of the year, and looking onto the beautiful gardens and lawns of the property. The orangery is equipped with a number of round tables and chairs, which can easily be moved should guests wish to hire in trestle tables for a special celebratory event. There is sufficient room in the orangery to accommodate parties of up to 56 people seated.
The orangery leads into the entrance hallway, to the right of which lie two reception rooms: a "snug" with sofa, armchairs, fireplace and large TV and large sash windows looking onto the gardens, and the elegant drawing room with fireplace, comfy sofas and armchairs, and large sash windows facing onto another part of the gardens. Those two reception rooms lie off the lovely old stone-flagged hallway, in which stands an antique grandfather clock, gently ticking the hours away. On the other side of the hallway is our large dining room, with table and chairs seating 19. The dining room leads into the pool room, equipped with a woodburner, an upright piano and a pool / snooker table with all that's needed to play those two games, and with bookshelves filled with a variety of books. There is a very spacious room equipped with a lavatory and washbasin next to the pool room. It lies off the corridor that lead from the pool room to the kitchen and utility room.
Stairs from the orangery lead down to the basement, in which is what we call our "cinema room", with a huge tv and sofas and armchairs for chilling out. Next to the cinema room is a room equipped with a table tennis table.
Returning to the ground floor, and there are 2 sets of stairs - the main, wooden staircase rising from the stone-flagged entrance hallway , and a slightly smaller, carpeted staircase - that lead to the first floor of the property.
First Floor Description
Four large bedrooms are located on the first floor of the house, each with its own bathroom. The master bedroom and bathroom are particularly spacious. Each bedroom is equipped with a hairdryer, and there is complimentary hand wash and shower wash provided in each bathroom, in addition to towels. This being largely a Georgian property, all of the rooms on both the ground floor and the first floor are beautifully proportioned, light and airy, with large curtained windows that retain their original wooden shutters (now painted, as they would no doubt have been in Georgian times!). The views from the first floor bedroom windows over the gardens and countryside always incite admiration from our guests!
A single set of carpeted stairs leads to the second (top) floor of the house
Second Floor and Above Description
There are, on the second (top) floor of the house 4 more bedrooms and a good-sized "snug" off which is a bathroom with bath and shower. The snug contains 2 single armchair beds and a small sofa bed - an ideal room for children! There is a further bathroom close to the staircase, serving (as does the bathroom lying next to the snug) the remaining four bedrooms. These are lower ceilinged bedrooms - still light and airy, with exposed ceiling beams.
Window Views Description
All of the windows of the Grange and the Dovecote Cottage offer views of beauty and privacy. The beauty being that of the gardens, the lawns and the grounds, and a variety of mature trees creating a totally private environment for all of our guests. The property lies off the Wincanton to Templecombe/Henstridge road, but it is not disturbed by traffic noise.
