For those with a love for nature, You will be able to see a variety of birds whilst visiting Bedlow, one of these being the Red Kite, these have been reintroduced into our area and have been previously saved from national extinction! The Red Kites are magnificently graceful birds and a spectacular sight for anyone who spots them, check for them soaring on warm, sunny days, they’ve even been known to perch in our own very back garden! You will also be able to see the Chinnor princes Risborough railway steam train, an award-winning heritage railway steaming alongside the Chiltern Hills.
The line begins in Chinnor Oxfordshire and crosses over the county-boundary to arrive at Princes Risborough in Buckinghamshire, this is a great experience for any train-lover or even a family day out, grab a bite to eat at the station café or visit the gift shop, there’s loads to do in the area and plenty of other places to travel to and experience.
If you don’t fancy a visit to the station, you can of course relax in our garden and wait for the moment you see the steam train itself make its way past Bakehouse farm as its lines run only a field away from our location.
For those who enjoy County cricket the Bledlow Cricket club is an active and welcoming source of entertainment, and the steam train runs alongside the cricket pitch so visitors can watch cricket and the steam train here simultaneously!(As well as a cheeky beverage).
The village of Bledlow is considered one of Buckinghamshire’s most attractive villages and is famous for being the setting scenes for the TV drama Midsomer Murders. As featured on BBC One, a stretch of the ancient two hundred and twenty mile Ridge way walk can be found yards from the property on Chiltern Hills and Bledlow Woods. If you’re taking a night off cooking, there is an excellent pub in the village. The neighbouring village of Chinnor offers traditional pubs, restaurants and local shops or a little further is Princes Risborough, with a whole host of independent shops and two supermarkets for your essential bits and pieces. With the Chiltern Hills close by, you won’t be short of outstanding natural beauty which is certainly worth exploring. If you fancy a change of pace to your laid-back getaway, then the cities of Oxford and London are twenty and forty five miles away. The Beach Lawn House was originally built in 1860 for Mr Thomas Henry Ismay founder of the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company, more commonly known as the White Star Line. His son Bruce Ismay lived at the house until he was thirteen, he eventually took over the running of the White Star line when his father retired. After commissioning the build of RMS Titanic, in 1912, he came to international attention as the highest-ranking White Star official to survive the sinking of the ship for which he was subject to severe criticism.
