The guests of Eslington East Wing and Eslington Lodge have access to three spacious wildlife ‘hides’ that are furnished with chairs, binoculars, and reference books. The hides are dispersed across the Estate grounds, although visitors are free to rearrange them as needed. Red squirrels are being reintroduced to Eslington with the assistance of volunteers and the owners; these animals can be seen and enjoyed together with hedgehogs, deer, herons, blue tits, and robins. There have also been reports of kingfishers and woodpeckers stopping by on occasion! Alternatively, stroll over to the lily pond, which is a lovely place to sit, enjoy the quiet, and listen to the surrounding wildlife.

The Old Buttress, a charming annexe for two people that was refurbished in 2021 and is conveniently located to Alston in Cumbria, welcomes walkers and cyclists even on the rainiest of days and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding rolling green hills.

When the 6th Duke of Devonshire finished his landscaping in the 1760s, Gardener’s Cottage was the only building still surviving. Gardener’s Cottage remained intact even when the entire Edensor village was relocated. The Duke of Devonshire is thought to have made this choice because the house was situated in a natural dip, out of sight of Chatsworth House, and did not block the breathtaking rural views, however the exact reasons behind it is still somewhat of a mystery.
