Durdle Door, is a monumental feature, literally! 50 metres high and 120 metres long, the structure truly is massive. Formed over thousands of years, erosion exploits the folds in layers of rock - formed by tectonic movements. The weaker rock is washed away, leaving a self-supporting Limestone arch.
The first location to be designated of ‘World importance’ by UNESCO in 2001, Durdle Door enjoys the same status as The Grand Canyon and the Great Barrier Reef. Not only will you see Durdle Door, but the neighbouring Man O’ war beach and Lulworth cove attract thousands of visitors a year!“Shall the tide thus ebb and flow for ever? And for evermore rave the wave and glance the ripple through the rocks at Durdle Door?” - Arthur Moule
Durdle Door has become an almost mythical part of the UK, providing the setting for many films such as; Wilde (1997), Nanny McPhee (2005) and Far From the Madding Crowd (1967). Not only that, but the arch also provided the inspiration for Arthur Moule’s poem.
We are certain this fantastic monument will make for the perfect day out!
