A secluded woodland cottage for families, friends and dogs, with Mumbles and Gower within easy reach
If you are trying to organise a few days away with family or friends and want somewhere that feels genuinely away from everyday life, Barn Owl Lodge gives you something rather special.
Sleeping eight, the cottage is tucked away in Clyne Valley Country Park, surrounded by ancient woodland and reached along a mile-long stone track through the trees. It feels wonderfully removed from the everyday, yet you are still close enough to enjoy Mumbles, Swansea and the Gower Peninsula.
Inside, the large open-plan living, dining and kitchen area gives everyone space to be together, whether that means lingering over breakfast, cooking supper after a day out or simply settling in for a relaxed evening. With four bedrooms and three bathrooms, there is plenty of room for families and groups of friends to share a holiday comfortably.
Outside, the woodland becomes part of the stay. There is plenty of outdoor space, dogs are very welcome, and the changing seasons bring something different throughout the year. Autumn colours, crisp winter walks and quiet spring mornings make Barn Owl just as appealing for a few days away outside the traditional summer holiday.
And while it feels like a proper woodland escape, you don’t have to choose between peace and exploring. Mumbles, Swansea and the Gower Peninsula are all within easy reach, so you can spend the day discovering beaches, coastal walks, cafés and local places before retreating back to the woods.
For something a little different, horse riding for children and adults is available at Clyne Farm Centre, along with Challenge Valley, our famously muddy outdoor assault course. They are memorable ways to spend time together and particularly good fun for families looking for more than another day at the beach.
Planning a bigger gathering? Keeper’s Cottage is right next door and the two cottages can interconnect, sleeping up to 16 guests altogether. It makes the setting particularly well suited to extended families, multi-generational stays and groups of friends who want to holiday together while still having plenty of space.
