When the 6th Duke of Devonshire finished his landscaping in the 1760s, Gardener’s Cottage was the only building still surviving. Gardener’s Cottage remained intact even when the entire Edensor village was relocated. The Duke of Devonshire is thought to have made this choice because the house was situated in a natural dip, out of sight of Chatsworth House, and did not block the breathtaking rural views, however the exact reasons behind it is still somewhat of a mystery.
The lovely three-bedroom cottage with Grade II listing greets you as soon as you arrive at Gardener’s Cottage. After being privately renovated by the Duchess of Devonshire, the cottage now offers a lovely, cosy haven for friends and family to get away from everyday life.
